I don’t know about you, but I really crave a good BBQ meal from time to time. We all love those yummy chain places like Mission BBQ and Dickeys.

So why not make your own pulled pork at home that’s a much healthier and a macro friendly version? This recipe gives you leftovers galore. I personally love it because it makes meal prepping during the week simple.

This easy recipe is one of those that will get added into your normal dinner rotations because its that simple, the key is choosing the right cut of pork.

Pork can be tricky, because it tends to be a very fatty cut of meat. However, its also very high in protein. When I make this easy slow cooker recipe, I opt for pork shoulder roast because its the easiest to shred to recreate traditional pulled pork.

But one thing I love? Options. Try some other cuts like pork tenderloin to get the leaner cut of meat.

Alright friends, ready for the secret weapon? Sweet, tangy, finger lickin’ delicious BBQ sauce.

Be sure to choose a healthy option for BBQ sauce like my low sugar BBQ sauce!

Use your own BBQ sauce, or try my healthy homemade BBQ sauce linked right here. So simple to make, and pairs perfectly with this simple recipe.

If this is your first time making homemade pulled pork, your in for a treat especially when you need ideas for an easy weeknight dinner.

Simple ingredients You’ll Need For the Easiest & Best Pulled Pork Recipe:

  • Pork Cut of Your Choice; preferably a boneless pork shoulder or pork roast
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Barbecue Sauce

Steps To Make Easy Homemade Crockpot Pulled Pork:

Step 1:

Spray your crock pot with non-stick cooking spray. Remove your pork from the wrapping (rinse if you’d like) and add to your crockpot

Step 2:

Add in 1/2 cup of water, and season your pork generously with salt and pepper.

Step 3:

Cook on low heat for 6-8 hours. I prefer to cook around the 8 hour mark to increase the tenderness in your pork.

Put the pork roast in the crockpot in the morning, and forget about it!

Step 4:

Remove the pork from the crockpot and let cool. Use a large fork to separate the pork to cool faster.

Step 5:

Use a large fork, or shredder (the one linked here is a game changer) and shred the pork. Throw out any excess fat.

Step 6:

Lather the shredded pork with your favorite BBQ sauce and you have the most delicious pulled pork, Enjoy!!

What makes this Crockpot Pulled Pork Recipe Healthy?

The sauce. BBQ sauce is a must in pulled pork, and one of America’s favorite. Yes, you can use store-bought BBQ sauces, but be careful.

If you go this route, I recommend the brand, Stubbs BBQ sauce. That is probably the best brand on the market that’s healthy and doesn’t have all the crazy sugars and calories added.
